Frequently Asked Questions

How is this different from the Certified Wellness & Supplement Pharmacist (CWSP)?

The CIPS certification is broader. While the CWSP focuses specifically on evidence-based use of vitamins and supplements, the CIPS covers that plus the integration of other modalities like nutrition, mind-body practices, and a functional medicine approach.

How does the exam approach the evidence for complementary therapies?

The exam is grounded in an evidence-based framework. It requires candidates to critically appraise the existing scientific literature for various therapies, acknowledge the limitations of the evidence, and make recommendations based on a risk-benefit assessment.

How is the CIPS certification renewed?

To maintain your certification, you must complete 30 hours of continuing education (CE) focused on integrative medicine, botanical medicine, and nutrition every three years, along with submitting a renewal fee.

Does this certification train me to be a naturopath or acupuncturist?

No. This certification is for pharmacists and validates expertise in understanding, evaluating, and safely integrating these therapies into a conventional pharmacy practice. It does not confer the qualifications of another licensed health profession.
