Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between telepharmacy and mail order pharmacy?

Mail order pharmacy focuses on dispensing and shipping medications. Telepharmacy is a model of care that uses technology to provide live, interactive pharmacist oversight and counseling to patients at a remote site, often in real-time.

Do I need to be licensed in multiple states for this certification?

No, you only need an active license in one U.S. state (or an international equivalent) to be eligible. However, the exam will test your knowledge of the principles and complexities of practicing across state lines.

How is the CTPP certification renewed?

To maintain your certification, you must complete 25 hours of continuing education (CE) every two years, with at least 10 hours focused on telepharmacy, technology, and pharmacy law, along with submitting a renewal fee.

Is this certification for hospital or community practice?

Both. The principles of telepharmacy are applied in both settings. The exam covers remote verification for hospital order entry ("tele-order entry") as well as managing remote dispensing sites in the community ("tele-dispensing").
