Module 12: KPI & Quality Improvement Analytics

In the previous module, you mastered the tools of the data analyst. You learned to extract, clean, and visualize data, culminating in the design of a powerful dashboard. That work is essential, but it is a means to an end, not the end itself. A dashboard that is not used to drive change is merely a digital decoration. The ultimate purpose of analytics in healthcare is not just to report on the state of things, but to actively improve it.

This module is the critical bridge between data analytics and quality improvement. It is here that we transition from the role of data storyteller to that of a change agent. Your experience as a pharmacist has already made you an informal quality improvement expert; every time you identify a potential error, counsel a patient for better adherence, or suggest a more optimal therapy, you are performing a micro-act of quality improvement.

Now, we will provide the formal structure and methodology to apply those instincts at a system-wide level. You will learn the science of selecting meaningful metrics (KPIs), the cyclical process of testing and implementing changes (PDSA cycles), and the art of communicating performance to leadership.
